Welcome to the Indiana Energy Association

The Indiana Energy Association is pleased you have taken the time to visit our website. The Association is a trade association, located in Indianapolis. Our membership is made up of 14 Indiana investor owned gas and electric utilities and one public charitable trust gas utility (a list of our member companies can be found in the About Us tab). The primary role of the Association is to advocate, communicate and promote energy policies to improve the economy and quality of life in Indiana. We work with Indiana public officials, regulators and our customers every day to meet that goal.

Indiana benefits a great deal from an efficient, high capacity utility presence. Without question, IEA member companies contribute mightily to the economic and personal well being of all Hoosiers. The leading indicators of IEA members’ ongoing contribution to the viability of our state is that Hoosiers not only rank in the top quarter of all states in the consumption of our products and services, but the Indiana companies also rank equally high as low-cost providers of both electricity and natural gas delivery.

IEA member companies deliver electricity and gas service to 4,000,000 Hoosiers, constituting a major enterprise in our state. In 2000, Hoosiers spent approximately $9 billion on electric and natural gas services for their personal and business purposes. Utilities contribute perhaps more than any other industry to the economic development efforts of state and local government. IEA member companies also pay hundreds of millions of tax dollars to state and local governments and are a substantial collector of sales and use tax on behalf of the state of Indiana.

All citizens of the State of Indiana have a vested interest in a financially sound and stable utility industry. The ability to offer competitive rates to all our customers and compete for economic development projects we all hope to bring to Indiana will depend, in large part, on maintaining the competitive advantage enjoyed by Indiana’s energy utilities.

We hope you enjoy your visit to our site and find it to be an informative source of information on Indiana’s gas and electric utility industry.
